Not only domestic companies, but you get quality handsets from multinational brands in this price bracket. More importantly, the budget segment is not only about Android anymore. Consumers now have an option to choose between Google and Microsoft's mobile platform. In this article, we're going to look at five sub-15k smartphones that are truly worth your money.
Moto G (16 GB)
Street Price: Rs 14,000
The Moto G flaunts a 4.5-inch HD display with Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch-resistance. Inside is a quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset clocked at 1.2 GHz. Since the phone lacks microSD card slot, we advice you go for the 16 GB version. The phone ships with stock Android Jelly Bean 4.3 ROM, Kitkat update is now available. The Indian variant comes with dual-SIM support. The 5 megapixel auto-focus camera is average. The phone packs in 2070 mAh battery. Currently, the phone is only available via Flipkart.com. As far as we know, Motorola has no official presence in India, so do enquire about after-sales service before placing an order.Nokia Lumia 630
Price: Rs 11,000
The Lumia 630 is the cheapest yet the best looking device among this lot. The 4.5-inch IPS screen packs in 480x854 pixels. ClearBlack polarisation filter improve the sunlight legibility to some extend. The 630 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400 chipset. The quad-core chip is clocked at 1.2 GHz. The phone has 512 MB RAM, 8 GB internal storage, microSD card slot that supports up to 128 GB. Other features include a 5 megapixel camera, dual-SIM functionality, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 1830 mAh battery. What's missing here is a front-facing camera.. XOLO is known for well-built devices, and the Play T1000 is no exception. The phone flaunts a vibrant 4.7" screen with pixel dimensions of 720x1280. The phone’s NVIDIA Tegra based quad-core processor is clocked at 1.5 GHz, and is coupled with a 12-Core ULP GeForce GPU. This makes the XOLO T1000 one of the few sub-20k smartphones to render the graphics-heavy games such as Real Racing 3 and Dead Trigger in full glory. Other key features include an 8 megapixel rear camera, 1 GB RAM, 4 GB internal storage, microSD card slot, and 2000 mAh battery. The Lenovo S820 comes with a 4.7" HD IPS screen. Much like the Lumia 720, the disply is slightly curved, which makes swiping gesture more natural. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor and has 1 GB RAM. This dual-SIM handset sports a 13 megapixel camera, 4 GB internal storage, and microSD card slot. The phone packs in 2000 mAh Li-Po battery, and comes in black, white, and red.
