26th Nov 2013Has the "zero" Diwali bonus announcement shattered your plans of buying the fancy iPhone 5S, Note 3, or Lumia 1020? Well, in that the case, you’ve landed on a right page. No, I’m not going to convince your grumpy bosses to recognise your efforts and pay up your dues, but I can point you to some amazing deals instead. To make your life easier, we’ve stacked up the recommended smartphones in three price segments. Now without further ado, here’s the list of devices that offer bang for your buck.
Budget Upto Rs 10,000
Nokia Lumia 520
Price: Rs 7900
The Nokia Lumia 520 is perhaps the only sub-10k handset to offer fluid user interface. At this price point, it’s also one of the most elegant looking devices in the market. The phone sports a Super Sensitive 4" IPS screen with 480x800 pixels. The 1 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 chipset assures smooth HD video playback. The internal storage is 8 GB, and you get an option to bump it up by as much as 64 GB via a microSD card slot. For photography there's a 5 megapixel auto focus camera. Apart from this, you get a set of Nokia-exclusive apps such as Cinemagraph, SmartShoot, Nokia Music, PhotoBeamer, and voice-guided GPS navigation.
XOLO Q800
Price: Rs 10,000
The Q800 sports a 4.5" IPS screen with 540x960 pixels. It packs in a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, coupled with PowerVR SGX544 GPU. The phone features an 8 megapixel rear camera backed by a BSI sensor. After using it for quite some time, I can tell the snapper is one of the best you can get in this price segment. Other specs include 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB internal memory, microSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G, Wi-Fi, 2100 mAh battery, and micro-USB for connectivity. The XOLO Q800 ships with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), and is priced at Rs 10,000.
Budget Upto Rs 20,000
XOLO Play T1000
Price: Rs 14,000
XOLO is known for well-built devices, and the Play T1000 is no exception. The phone flaunts a vibrant 4.7" screen 720x1280. The phone’s quad-core processor is clocked at 1.5 GHz, and is coupled with a 12-Core ULP GeForce GPU. This makes the XOLO T1000 one of the few sub-20k smartphones to render the graphics-heavy games such as Real Racing 3 and Dead Trigger in full glory. Other key features include an 8 megapixel rear camera, 1 GB RAM, 4 GB internal storage, microSD card slot, and 2000 mAh battery. The only downer here, is that the phone is still stuck on Android 4.1.1.
Panasonic P51
Price: 18,000
The Panasonic P51 is the only dual-SIM phone to make it to our list in this segment. The handset packs in a 5" HD IPS screen with impressive colour reproduction. The show is run by a MediaTek MT6589 SOC with a 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, and PowerVR 544 GPU. The onboard 1 GB of RAM is enough to handle Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) quite well. For photography there's a very good 8 megapixel auto-focus camera. It covers other essentials such as Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, and has a 2500 mAh battery. So if you're in for a high-end dual-SIM phone, the Panasonic P51 is the way to go.
Above Rs 20,000
LG Nexus 4
Price: Rs 22,000
The Google Nexus 4 currently runs Android 4.3, and being a Nexus device, it will probably feature in the first wave of devices to receive the Kitkat update. The Nexus 4 features a 4.7" True IPS Plus screen with 768x1280 pixels. Inside is a powerful 1.5 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, and 2 GB of RAM. In the camera department, it's equipped with an 8 megapixel auto-focus snapper. Other specs include Bluetooth 4.0, 3G, Wi-Fi, NFC, and 2100 mAh battery. If you do not like any customisations that most vendors offer, and are looking for a pure Android experience, then this is the phone for you.
Nokia Lumia 920
Price: Rs 23,300
The Lumia 920 is based on the Windows Phone 8 platform. Thanks to the Amber update, this phone is now compatible with the Nokia Camera app (earlier known as Pro Cam) as seen on the Lumia 1020. The phone is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 chipset, featuring a dual-core 1.5 GHz CPU. It has an 8.7 MP PureView camera with dual-LED flash, Carl Zeiss optics, and Optical Image Stabilisation. Apart from that, you get a 4.5" IPS panel with pixel dimensions of 768x1280, 1 GB of RAM, and 32 GB internal storage. And of course it comes with the goodness of Nokia Music and free offline HERE Maps. For Rs 23,300, it comes as a great deal for shutterbugs.
