Chandrakant 'CK' Isi
12th Feb 2013In case you were too busy comparing the Lumia 920 with Samsung's GALAXY S III, I think it's time for to you know that Valentine's day is only 48 hours away. Popular lore tries to wiggle in and claim that guys in a relationship should get their girl a gift, to keep her happy.
True, it's rather difficult to find something good at such short notice . But dear TechTree reader, this is where our "expertise" can save the day yet again. I'm going to avoid the tired and soppy "buy this phone for her" story, yet help bring in the joy without draining your wallet. After all, there are a lot of things I can do besides recommending and reviewing smartphones and tablets.
Depending on how much you're willing to spend, I've included gift ideas starting from less than 100 bucks to gizmos that cost more than 10 grand.
Personalised Cards
Price: Rs 70 onwards
It's said that a greeting card is the best way to convey your feeling. Not sure if that's true, but it's surely the more pocket-friendly option. Now that you've decided to go with cards, why not send something personalised? Head over to Snapfish.com and create your own greeting card, image collage, flipbooks, and even playing cards (well, that was too much). The procedure is simple, choose a template, upload a photograph, and let your creativity fly! To make your life easier, the website also gives you an option to ship these cards directly to your loved one. Here's the heart-touching card I managed to create:
You set my heart on fire! Quite literally...
LED Candles
Price: Rs 700
If you're planning a candle light dinner on the eve of the Valentine's day, don't forget to pick up a pair of LED candles. These flameless devices look just like the original candles without you having to worry about the wax spills and potential fire danger. Being battery operated (3 button cells), these candles are wind proof. Perfect for the occasion!
Heart Pendant Pen Drive
Price: Rs 900
What could be a better gift for a girl than jewellery? Well, the answer is jewellery that's not just beautiful, but useful too. Meet the trendy Swarovski heart pendant with an 8 GB pen drive built into it. According to the manufacturer, the pendant is water and dust resistant (a claim that any pen drive can make, being based on flash memory). Maybe this is what keeping the valuable data close to your heart means.
Milagrow SuperBot Robotic Vacuum Cleaner
Price: Rs 10,000
If you're ready to spend dearly to make your gal happy, there's no gift half as good as the Milagrow SuperBot Robotic Vacuum Cleaner. As its name suggests, this gizmo can clean the house all by itself. Apart from avoiding obstacles, this bot can even return to its docking station when running low on battery. Now that your wife doesn't have to run after Shantabai, there's more time for both of you to spend together.
Philips Viva Collection Airfryer
Price: Rs 15,000
This one's rather expensive, but at the end of the day it's you who's going to benefit from this most. The Philips Airfryer is a god-sent device for those unable to let go of junk food. For better health, we're often asked to choose non-oily food. But wait, with all the technology in the world, why can't we make junk food healthier instead? That's exactly what the Philips Airfryer does, reducing the amount of oil used in making junk food by around 80%. Now tell me you don't want to have those low fat French fries, samosas, and Chocolate cakes?
