04th Nov 2011The engineers at Google are hard at work bringing in new features and product offerings. At the same time, they also slip in a few easter eggs for us to find. Here are a few of them:
Do A Barrel Roll
Let's start with the latest trick, revealed to the world merely days ago. To see it in action, search for do a barrel roll on Google (or click the link). The page turns around 360 degrees! It also works if you search for z or r twice. The easter egg pays homage to the Star Fox game for the Nintendo 64 console. This works only on the latest version of the Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari web browsers.
Tilt
This trick works similar to the previous one - search for tilt on Google and it will tilt the search results page. It also works if you search for askew.
ASCII Art
This one is a bit old. However, for those who don't know it, searching for ascii art changes the Google logo to one made with ASCII (text) characters.
Then there are the classic easter eggs such as anagram, which shows a rearrangement of the search term as a search suggestion.
recursion is something that programmers will appreciate. For those who aren't code monkeys, recursion is the process of a programme or subroutine calling itself, thus leading to an infinite loop. Similarly, searching for the term recursion displays a message Did you mean: recursion - in effect, the search term is referring to itself! Not impressed? Like I said, you have to be a programmer to get it.
Finally, you can also use Google in a host of different languages, including exotic ones like Hacker, Pirate, Bihari, and for the Star Trek fans out there, Klingon as well! For the complete list of languages that Google's offered in, visit this page.
Well, that's all the tricks we have for now. If you know of some we've missed out on, let us know in the comments!
