13th Jul 2012The fact that BlackBerry maker RIM is going through a tough time is no secret. However, thanks to its loyal followers (mostly comprised of BBM chat addicts), the brand is still staying afloat. In a bid to be reassured about its popularity, the manufacturer posted a tweet from its @BlackBerry account that read, "Fill in the blank: BlackBerry helps me ________".
Unlike the "I would ___ for you, Samsung Galaxy SIII" tweets by @Samsung_India though, which saw several fanboys prostrate themselves at Samsung's feet, BlackBerry witnessed its publicity stunt backfire badly. While this was not a total disaster, as some users did post positive responses, most replies complained against the handset maker. Having said that, not all users were rabid fanboys of rival brands; some of them seemed like users who were resigned to their fate.
While most social networking exercises are used to generate a positive vibe for products, companies often forget that the blogosphere can be a double-edged sword. Consider this a rude awakening for the BlackBerry brand. Do you think RIM deserved this negative feedback, or was it just an attempt by rival fanboys to embarrass it? Let us know in the comments.
