Gallery: TechTree Blog: Survey Reveals Ownership Patterns Of Smartphones In Urban India

Nielsen Informate Mobile Insights conducted a smartphone survey across towns in urban India, and has come up with some interesting observations about how the youth use mobile phones in the country. The survey reveals there are 27 million smartphone users in urban India, which means that 9% of all mobile phone users own a smartphone.

Out of these, 22 million users access social networking websites whereas 16 million view streaming videos through their handsets. Around 24 million users use their smartphones for online searches, 19 million users chat and use webmail. There are 8 million users who use their handset for activities such as banking and finance, travel, shopping, and accessing other web portals.

The survey also reveals that the age group of 18-24 boasts of the highest incidence of smartphone usage, which is pegged at 13%. Another interesting detail coming out of the survey is that 10% of all men, and 4% of all women are smartphone users.
