Encased in a metal architecture, LeEco has continued its legacy of crafting its smartphones with a metal housing in LeMax2. The device sports a 5.7 inch IPS capacitive screen, oozing a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels that suffices to fetch a vibrant and crystal clear experience while watching videos or browsing through high resolution pictures.
The front facing 8MP camera is mounted on the top left of the device, which manages to absorb sufficient lighting in a mildly lit environment to offer impressive, luminous selfies. Flip the device and you will see a fingerprint scanner right below the smartphone's 21MP primary camera, capable of recording 4K videos at 30-frames per second.
LeEco has also pre integrated camera features like Touch Focus, HDR, Panaroma etc. in its flagship offering. The primary camera lens is a bit large as compared to other flagship smartphones, nonetheless captures some astounding videos and snaps in the first impressions round. The power as well as the volume rocker button rests on the top right of the device, while the speaker and the USB charging port are integrated at the bottom.LeEco, in a first, has also come up with a USB Type C port in its devices, replacing the 3.5 mm audio jacks, which according to the company will result in minimal sound loss while listening to your favorite audio tracks.
We will only be able to stamp this claim of LeEco once we get the device for a full scale review with it dedicated earphones, offering support of USB C type slots. The SIM slot, offering support for dual nano SIM cards, is integrated at the left edge of the device.
The company has also integrated a dedicated live button on the homescreen of the device which, when tapped, offers access to live streaming of 150 TV channels, along with movies, songs TV shows, etc.
One needs to subscribe to the company's Supertainment membership programme (which comes free for one year with the device) to access the content services.
Hardware
As mentioned earlier, LeEco is offering one of the best hardware configurations in the flagship smartphone segment with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, clocking at 2.5 Ghz coupled with 6GB (Yes 6GB!) of RAM. On the storage front, the device offers 64GB of internal storage, with no option of an external memory chip.
There is also another version of the LeMax2 launched by the company, offering 32GB of inbuilt storage with 4GB of RAM, with the remaining tech specs being same for the device. At this hardware configuration we don't have to reiterate the device's capability of playing graphic intensive applications of full HD videos. We will definitely point out any issues while running heavy applications once we receive the device for a review.
On the software front, the device runs on Android 6.1 Marshmallow OS, tweaked with the company's EUI5.6 user interface.LeEco has also integrated a 3100mAh battery (non removable) with QuickCharge 2.0 feature, which it claims to offer 4-5 hours of talk-time in just 3.5 minutes of charging.
The two variants of the device have been priced at INR 22,999 for the 4GB RAM +32GB storage smartphone and INR 29,000 for the 6GB RAM+64GB storage smartphone.Verdict
No doubt, the device offers some exceptional hardware advancements, but at the same time also feels it’s a bit too large to be used as a smartphone. The plain old metallic look also appears to be slightly outdated, but again this opinion would vary among consumers. We would require some more time (until the device ships to our address) to conclude a final verdict of whether to pick the LeMax2 at this price point.
